What is woven geotextile?

Woven geotextiles are made of high-strength industrial synthetic fibers as raw materials and produced by weaving process. It is characterized by high mechanical strength such as tensile resistance, tear resistance, top burst resistance, puncture resistance, etc., which is 8 times that of staple fiber geotextile of the same gram weight, and 5 times that of polyester filament stone fabric, and its high strength characteristics are particularly suitable for strengthening, reinforcement, protection and isolation engineering: at the same time, the hydraulic performance is superior, it is a plane filtration, the void size is large, the equivalent pore size is 0.07-0.5mm, and the resistance to plugging and creep is strong, especially suitable as a filter layer for non-cohesive soil.
What are the properties of woven geotextile?
Woven geotextiles have a few standout features that make them really popular in engineering projects. First off, their high tensile strength is impressive, usually ranging from 50 to 200 kN/m, which means they can maintain structural stability in high-stress environments like road or railway subgrade reinforcement. Plus, their low elongation rate, around 5% to 15%, means they don't deform much under load, making them ideal for long-term load applications like bridge foundations.
Another big plus is their chemical resistance, especially in acidic and alkaline environments. Since they're primarily made of polypropylene or polyester fibers, they can be used in pH environments ranging from 2 to 13 without significant degradation or loss of strength. Woven geotextiles also boast excellent permeability and filtration properties, with a vertical permeability coefficient typically between 10^-4 and 10^-6 cm/s, which makes them perform well in erosion control and underground drainage systems.
Their friction coefficient isn't low either, usually around 0.8 to 1.0, effectively preventing slippage, especially on steep slopes. Additionally, they're highly durable, with good UV resistance, and can last over 20 years even when exposed to sunlight, making them a top choice for projects requiring long-term exposure or durability. Lastly, they can handle dynamic loads like traffic vibrations or foundation settlements without significant performance drop, which makes them suitable for use in highways, railways, and bridges.

What is woven geotextile used for?
1) Isolation, reinforcement and protection of the bottom, slope and closure of landfill disposal sites and environmental protection projects;
2) Reinforcement, filtration and erosion control of water conservancy projects, dams and slope protection, isolation and bottom protection of channels;
3) Foundation isolation, filtration, soil slope, retaining wall and pavement reinforcement of highways, railways and airport runways;
4) Soft foundation treatment, slope protection, beach embankment, harbor wharf and breakwater reinforcement, drainage, sandbag filling, and soft body row of port engineering.
Technical Data Sheet
Product Data of PET and PP Woven Geotextile
Case 1: Foundation Reinforcement Project for a Highway in California, USA
In a foundation reinforcement project for a highway in California, USA, the construction unit used polyester woven geotextile with a tensile strength of 50 kN/m. The use of woven geotextile effectively enhanced the bearing capacity of the foundation, preventing settlement and cracking. The project started in May 2021 and was successfully completed in June 2022.
Case 2: Riverbank Protection Project in Vancouver, Canada
In a riverbank protection project in Vancouver, Canada, the construction unit used polypropylene woven geotextile for protection. The good permeability and high strength of the woven geotextile effectively prevented soil erosion, protecting the stability of the riverbank. The project started in July 2020 and was completed in May 2021.
Case 3: Ecological Slope Protection Project in Sydney, Australia
In an ecological slope protection project in Sydney, Australia, woven geotextile was used for slope protection. The construction unit chose polypropylene woven geotextile with a tensile strength of 40 kN/m and planted vegetation on it, successfully preventing soil erosion and protecting the ecological environment. The project started in April 2019 and was completed in March 2020.

Woven geotextile, made by weaving fiber strands (typically polypropylene or polyester) into a mesh-like structure, is widely used in civil engineering. However, some lesser-known facts about woven geotextiles might not be commonly recognized:

Packing & Shipping

As an efficient geosynthetic material, woven geotextile performs excellently in various engineering projects. Its high strength, durability, and excellent chemical resistance make it an ideal choice for road, railway, dam, riverbank, protection, drainage, and filtration projects. Whether used to enhance foundation bearing capacity, prevent soil erosion, or protect the ecological environment, woven geotextile provides excellent solutions.
