Details To Pay Attention To When Using Geomembrane

Geomembranes are widely used in various waterproofing projects due to their excellent properties. So, what details do we need to pay attention to during the construction process to avoid damage and delay the construction progress?
1: During construction, open flames are prohibited, which means that construction personnel are prohibited from smoking or using other equipment with open flames. Geomembranes are petroleum refining chemicals without any flame retardants added, which can easily lead to fire.
2: During the laying process, a bag filled with soil and stone should be immediately pressed to avoid being blown up by the wind. Generally, the entire area reaches several hundred square meters, and the larger the area, the greater the wind force. After laying, it is usually welded with another piece and the surrounding area needs to be anchored. In cases where welding or anchoring is not completed, if encountering strong winds, the entire piece is likely to be blown up. Once blown up, it is very likely to tear the film, and even if it is not torn, it will be dangerous. It is much more difficult to lay it again than the last time it was laid in rolls, Especially when there is wind, it cannot be achieved. So before laying construction, sandbags, geotextile bags, or other heavy objects should be prepared in advance to be covered every one to two meters and anchored in a timely manner.
3: Practitioners with welding qualifications should carry out welding. Generally, hot melt dual track welding machines are used for welding. If the temperature of the welding machine is too high, welding leakage will occur and affect the overall anti-seepage effect. If it is too low, the welding points of the two films are not firm, and external forces or stresses can easily tear the welding points apart, losing the anti-seepage effect.
4: The principle is to clean the roller of the equipment after five hours of welding work. Due to the adhesion of the geomembrane caused by heat, during the high-temperature welding process, the membrane is bonded together under high temperature pressure. Over time, stains and slag marks will be left on the roller of the welding machine, affecting the fit when welding again. Squeeze welding also has similar problems.
5: When welding composite films, especially those with lower weight, they are surrounded by cut edges. During welding, geotextile needs to be polished, usually using a polishing machine to avoid damage.
6: Welding joints shall strictly follow T-joints and cross welds are strictly prohibited.
7: When welding under low temperature conditions, because the current equipment is relatively advanced, welding can also be achieved under low temperature conditions. At this time, professional welding technicians are needed to carry out welding to avoid false welding due to low temperature.
8: Geomembrane anchoring: Taking buried anchoring as an example, U-shaped trenches are generally at a depth of more than 50 centimeters and have a width of more than 50 centimeters. The membrane edge needs to be fully attached to the periphery of the U-shaped trench, and there should be no situation where it is only placed at the bottom of the U-shaped trench for material saving without the outer edge. Excessive force in the area can easily pull out the anchoring edge, making the repair process more labor-intensive and time-consuming.
Leakage points in individual areas of the geomembrane should be repaired by covering the base material. It is necessary to use an extrusion welding gun to cover and weld the base material of the film at the leakage point. This method should also be followed in case of solder joint leakage.
